More about Allan Gauld
Formerly, 6418, Cameron Highlanders.
A Gauld Cameron Highlanders
DUNDEE PRISONER OF WAR WRITES FOR “CHRISTMAS BOX.”
Private A. Gauld a Dundee reservist in the 1st Cameron Highlanders is a prisoner of war in Germany. His wife, who resides at 2 Middle Street, was informed of this in a letter received yesterday.
“I was taken prisoner on 11th November,” he writes, “along with 100 of our chaps. We are meeting with good treatment here, only we could be doing with something more to eat.” Gauld then enumerates a number of little luxuries which he would like to have as a “Christmas box.”
Private Gauld has seen service in Africa and China with his regiment, and his term of 12 years was due to expire on 1st October last. War having broken out before that date, he was mobilised, and despatched to the Continent with the First Expeditionary Force. He is 29 years of age, and was a hawker while in Dundee.
