More about John Adam

John Adam was the son of Mr Thomas and Mrs Elizabeth Adam. He was married to Mrs Annie Ritchie Robertson Adam of Whites Building, William Street, Tayport and was born in Dundee. The SS War Patrol was a 1,800 ton steam cargo ship completed in 1917 by Detroit Shipbuilding Co. of Wyandotte, Michigan for the British Government Shipping Controller. She sank on 10 August 1917 after striking a mine laid by the German submarine UC-69, approximately one mile West of Penmarc’h in Brittany, France. She was en route from Barry to an unknown destination with a cargo of coal. John Adam is named on the Tower Hill Memorial in London. Thirteen people on board lost their lives in the sinking and there is a report in Peoples Journal of 10 August 1918.
