DUNDEE SERGEANT SAVES COMRADE.
GALLANT ACT BROUGHT TO NOTICE OF COLONEL.
Sergeant M. Forbes, of the 106th Winnipeg Light Infantry, by his great gallantry saved a comrade from certain death. The details of the deed are given in a Winnipeg paper, which states :― “According to a letter received in Winnipeg from Corporal Shaw, who is in hospital in England, he owes his life to Sergeant M. Forbes, of the106th Winnipeg Light Infantry, a member of the 10th Battalion. Sergeant Forbes went out to remove Shaw from the danger zone, and while getting him back to the lines of safety was himself shot through the right lung.
“Corporal Shaw says that if it had not been for Sergeant Forbes’ heroic action he certainly would have been killed. The sergeant’s bravery has been brought to the attention of the colonel.”
Sergeant Forbes, who is a Dundee man, and the son of Mrs M. Forbes, tobacconist, 17 Overgate, is present recuperating in an English hospital, and still carries the bullet in his lung.
