William was the father of Pte William Ramsay Rough Jr, 489729, 9th Battalion Canadian Railway Troops. William Jr was born Glasgow, 16.02.1897 and died 27.10.1963 in Nanaimo B.C.

William Sr was discharged from the army 10.11.1916. It appears that he then re enlisted with the 230th Battalion Canadian Forestry Corps after changing his date of birth to 14.06.1869 and his occupation to axe man, and served with them until his discharge, 05.03.1919.
