More about John Donald Lindsay

  1. Lindsay   Black Watch

WOUNDED IN FIVE PLACES.

Lance-Corporal J. Lindsay, of the 4th Black Watch, lies in Stobhill Hospital, Glasgow, recovering from wounds sustained at the great Ypres battle on Sunday, 9th May.  His parents who reside at 116 Rosebank Street, Dundee, have received the following letter from him :―

“I have arrived in Glasgow all right.  I have been wounded in five places.  I have lost the little finger of my right hand, and have two wounds in the left leg, wounds through the foot, and one through the knee, and a slight wound on the right arm.  This happened on Sunday 9th May, at the big battle at a place called Richebourg.

“The Germans are doing dirty work.  It is all up when they put over the gases.  The 1000 guns that went off on Sunday were terrible.  My ears are sore with the rattle of them.”

Lance-Corporal Lindsay joined the “Fourth” four years ago, and is 21 years of age.
