More about James Shand
James Shand Cameron Highlanders
DUNDEE SOLDIER SAVES AUSTRALIAN
BY GIVING TWO AND A QUARTER PINTS OF BLOOD.
Private James Shand, Cameron Highlanders, has made a noble self-sacrifice. While he was lying in hospital in Kent an Australian soldier, who was in a precarious condition, was brought into the ward. The doctor asked for a volunteer to give 2¼ pints of blood to save the Australian’s life. Pte. Shand consented, and both men are recovering. The gallant lad is only twenty years of age, and his mother Mrs Shand, resides at 1 Wolseley Street, Dundee. He enlisted in February, 1917, and went to France in October of the same year. He was wounded in March, 1918, and has been in hospital since. In civil life he was a butcher with Mr William Jack, Ann Street. A brother, Pte. George Shand, is serving with the Canadians, and another, Pte. John Shand, was wounded at the battle of Loos, and was discharged.
