More about James Sturrock

For reasons unknown James is not listed on the original Dundee Roll of Honour. He has no known grave but is remembered on the Tyne Cot Memorial.

James Sturrock   240241   Black Watch

TERRITORIAL MISSING.

Lance-Corporal James Sturrock, of the Black Watch, is unofficially reported missing since 26th September, a regimental comrade having notified his sister, Mrs Coutts, Arbroath Road, to this effect.  James, who is 20 years of age, is a son of Mr James Sturrock, late overseer in Academy Street Works, and now of Dundee. In pre-war days he was employed as a factory worker in Forfar, and when war broke out he was called up as a member of the local detachment of the Black Watch Territorials.  He went to France with his Battalion in October 1914, and was wounded after only a short experience of active service.  Owing to his youth, Sturrock on recovering from his injuries was attached to a home defence unit and was not drafted back to the fighting line until about nine months ago.
