John Leys M.M. 3015 Black Watch
MEDAL-WINNER WOUNDED.
Corporal John Leys, Black Watch, whose name also appears in the list of awards of the Military Medal, is at present lying in hospital in France.
Corporal Leys sustained a gunshot wound in the left leg on 3d September, but he is progressing favourably. He enlisted about a month after the outbreak of the war, and has been in the firing line for about 20 months. The gallant corporal came through the memorable battles of Neuve Chapelle and Loos, in which his regiment distinguished itself. He was prior to enlistment, employed in Lilybank Foundry, Dundee.
Corporal Leys is a son of Mr and Mrs Leys, 8 Graham Place, Dundee. Two brothers are also serving. Driver Harry Leys is at the front with the Army Service Corps, while Private Alexander Leys is in the Black Watch.
