William Carmichael Second-Lieutenant Royal Fusiliers
DUNDEE MAN RECEIVES COMMISSION.
Sapper William Carmichael, 110th Company R.E. Railway Troops, 35 North Ellen Street, Dundee, has been gazetted second-lieutenant in the Royal Fusiliers (City of London Regiment).
Lieutenant Carmichael joined the colours in March, 1915, and shortly afterwards was sent to France, where he has been acting as land surveyor and engineer to his company. Before enlisting he held responsible positions both in Liverpool and Dundee as an engineer and draughtsman.

DUNDEE OFFICER WOUNDED.
Mr James Carmichael, who resides at 35 North Ellen Street, Dundee, last night received a telegram from the War Office stating that his son, Second-Lieutenant William Carmichael, Royal Fusiliers, was wounded on 6th October.
Lieutenant Carmichael enlisted as a sapper in the Royal Engineers in March of 1915. He was eight months at the front with that regiment, and shortly after received a commission in the Royal Fusiliers. He is 28 years of age, and was prior to enlistment employed by a big engineering firm in Liverpool. He served his apprenticeship with Mr D. J. Macdonald, Dundee.

Lieutenant William Carmichael, of the Royal Fusiliers, who has been reported missing, is a nephew of Mr William Carmichael, the local manager of Dunn’s shoe shop and spent part of his furloughs on visits to Forfar.

DUNDEE OFFICER IN HANDS OF GERMANS.

This was the contents of a telegram received by Mr James Carmichael, 35 North Ellen Street, Dundee, from his son Lieutenant William Carmichael, Royal Fusiliers. Lieutenant Carmichael was reported missing on 30th November by the major of his battalion, and it was only last night that the official intimation came to hand from the War Office. This was followed by a telegram from the lieutenant himself to-day. The lieutenant, who is 30 years of age, joined the Royal Engineers in February 1915, but was afterwards commissioned to the Royal Fusiliers. He was wounded on the Somme in October 1916.
