More about John Cohen

John Cohen    Royal Scots

DUNDEE SOLDIER MISSING

MOTHER’S PATHETIC EXPERIENCE.

No news for five weeks, and the first news bad news, is the unfortunate experience of Mrs John Cohen, 19 Constable Street, Dundee.  Her son John is missing.

Mrs Cohen received the painful news yesterday at the breakfast hour.  John was her only son, being the sole survivor of a family of seven.  Her husband, who is also named John, is serving with the colours.  He is an old Cameron Highlander, and when the National Reserves were called up he became attached to the Black Watch.  Mrs Cohen has therefore been living alone since the outbreak of the war.

The note which she received from the War Office yesterday intimated that her son John had been “reported missing after the engagement at ______ on 26th August.

John reached the age of twenty-two only on the 5th August, the day after the declaration of war.  He was unmarried, and served his time as a riveter, but afterwards became a soldier, and had done between two and three years’ service.

Mrs Cohen has not had any word from her husband for fully a week, and she is convinced that he is now on the Continent.
