ANOTHER DUNDEE MAN REPORTED MISSING.
“I regret to inform you that a report has this day been received from the War Office to the effect that Private Charles Dowdles, Royal Scots, is reported ‘missing’ after an engagement at________ on the 26th August.”
This is the sad news which has been received by Private Dowdles’ wife, who resides at 64 Blackness Road, Dundee, from the regiment’s headquarters at Hamilton.
Private Dowdles, who was a reservist, was called up on the 5th August, and the only word that his wife received from him was from Hamilton saying that he was going away, either to France or Belgium, and a postcard later from the front, in which he stated that he was well.
Private Dowdles was employed as a postman in Dundee, and has two brothers at the front—one in his own regiment and the other in the Army Service Corps.
The message has thrown Mrs Dowdles into a state of great anxiety, and she is anxiously awaiting further news.

The photograph has been sent by Private Charles Dowdles, 2nd Royal Scots, who is a prisoner of war in Germany. Private Dowdles, whose relatives reside at 64 Blackness Road, was wounded in the battle of Mons, and was taken prisoner. He is standing on the extreme right of the photograph. The group includes a number of other Dundee men.
