William was the brother of Pte James Ross, S/43076, 6th Battalion Black Watch, who was killed in action, 21.03.1918.

Mrs Ross, 61 Derby Street, Dundee, whose son, Lance-Corporal William Ross, was reported missing on 2d September, has now got word that he is a prisoner of war.  Lance-Corporal Ross, who was at the front when only fifteen and four months, was sent back home as being under age.  He enlisted again in the F. and F. Yeomanry, but was transferred to the Black Watch, and had been in France for the last four months.  In civil life he was employed in Lawside Works.  His eldest brother James Ross, Black Watch, has been missing since 21st March 1918.
