More about Henry James Dibbs

Henry, known as Harry, Dibbs left Dundee where he was a bank clerk in the Lochee branch of the Bank of Scotland in 1907. He migrated to Sydney, Australia and then Bombay, India. He spent the war in India becoming a Captain in the Bombay Battalion of the Indian Army. He married Phyllis Holliwell Baker in 1916 in Jupplepore, Bengal and had two children, Jean who became a midwife and Arthur (Alex) who became chief executive and deputy chair of the National Westminster Bank. Harry returned to Burntisland, Scotland sometime in the 1930s before settling in Yorkshire until he died In 1959.

Henry had 3 brothers who also served in the Great War, Pte David Dibbs, 51168, Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry, who was killed in action, 04.05.1915, L/Cpl William Arthur Dibbs, 28942, 16th Battalion, Canadian Infantry, who was killed in action 22.04.1915 and Seaman Walter Robert Dibbs, J72382, H.M.S. Victory, Royal Navy, who returned home safely.
