More about Walter Robert Dibbs
Walter returned from the Navy to Employment as a draughtsman in Dundee. He married Ann Matthew Wetherspoon Cathro in St Paul’s Cathedral in 1922. They moved to Birmingham where Walter worked mainly for Pilkington’s Glass and the Ministry of Aircraft Production making Wellington Bombers during WW2. They had two daughters, Lillian and Muriel who both went to art college. However they contracted TB and died within a few years of each other in the 1940s. Walter retired to Dundee in 1969 and died in 1970. He is buried alongside his parents and siblings in Balgay Cemetery.
Two of his brothers also served in the Great War, the were Pte David Dibbs, 51168, Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry, who was killed in action, 04.05.1915 & L/Cpl William Arthur Dibbs, 28942, 16th Battalion Canadian Infantry, who was killed in action 22.04.1915.
