John Millar Allison S/44782 Gordon Highlanders
Private John Allison, Gordon Highlanders, son of Mr and Mrs John Allison, Carlonan, West Newport, was killed in action on 27th September. He was in charge of a Lewis gun. Before enlistment Private Allison was a member of Newport Volunteer Corps, and was in the office of Messrs H. & A. Scott, jute manufacturers. He was 18 years of age. In a letter the Chaplain writes in terms of high praise of the bravery and high character of the lad.
