More about Arthur Middleton Kinnaird

Arthur was the son of 11th Baron Kinnaird and Baroness Kinnaird of Rossie Priory. His brother Captain Douglas Arthur Kinnaird 1st Battalion Scots Guards was killed in action 24.10.1914.

Arthur is not listed on the original Dundee Roll of Honour but is remembered on the Fowlis Easter War Memorial, by Dundee.

Arthur Kinnaird   Lieutenant   Scots Guards

LORD KINNAIRD’S GREAT LOSS.

SECOND SON KILLED IN ACTION.

The war has brought another sore bereavement to Lord Kinnaird.  News reached Rossie Priory yesterday that Lieutenant the Honourable Arthur Kinnaird, Scots Guards, second surviving son of Lord Kinnaird, had fallen in action.

The deceased officer, who was thirty-two years of age was educated at Eton and subsequently entered his father’s banking business in London.  He joined the forces at the outbreak of war, and before being transferred to the Scots Guards served for some time on the Headquarters Staff.  He had been at the front for over a year, and recently was awarded the Military Cross for distinguished service in the field.

Lord Kinnaird’s eldest son and heir the Master of Kinnaird, who was also an officer of the Scots Guards, was killed in 1914, shortly after hostilities had opened.  His remaining sons are soldiers.  The Honourable Kenneth, who succeeded his elder brother as Master of Kinnaird, is an officer of the Scottish Horse, and the youngest son, the Honourable Patrick, was recently gazetted to the Scots Guards.

Lord Kinnaird and his family are at present in London, and the sincere sympathy of the residents in the Carse of Gowrie will go out to them.

LORD AND LADY KINNAIRD’S BEREAVEMENT.

Many messages of sympathy have reached Lord and Lady Kinnaird in their bereavement by the death in action of their third son, Lieutenant the Honourable Arthur Middleton Kinnaird.  The deceased officer was educated at Wellington House, Westgate, and Eton College.

On leaving Eton he worked in Barclays Bank, Pall Mall, East London.  On the outbreak of war, he enlisted in the University and Public School Corps, in which he got a commission in April, 1915.  In October, 1915, he was appointed A.D.C., to Major-General Rycroft, and served with him in France until July, 1916.  He was then transferred to the Scots Guards, and remained with that unit until the day of his death in action, November 27.

He was promoted first-lieutenant in August 1917, and received the Military Cross in October, 1917, for gallant and efficient service.

After leaving Eton he was connected with the Eton Mission Boys’ Club, and was a member of the committee of the Homes for Working Boys in London. He was an elder in the Church of Scotland Crown Court Church, London.
