More about Samuel Herbert Goudie
For reasons unknown this man is not listed on the original Dundee Roll of Honour, but is remembered on St. Stephens Church, Broughty Ferry Roll of Honour. Samuel was the brother of Pte Arnold James Goudie 12042, 4th Regiment, South African Infantry, who died 24.03.1918.
Following in his father Samuel Smith Goudie’s footsteps, Samuel Herbert Goudie, always known as Herbert, had a promising career in banking prior to WW1. This began in 1902 as an apprentice at the Wick Branch of The Commercial Bank of Scotland where his father was Manager, becoming a Bank Clerk there a few months later. He was then appointed Accountant (i.e. Under Manager) at the Lochgelly Branch of the Bank in 1907. He left the Commercial Bank in 1912 switching to the London and River Plate Bank in London. His Father Samual served as Honorary Sherriff Substitute for Forfarshire.
