John was serving as a Gunner with the 76th Field Regiment, Royal Artillery in France when he died as the result of an accident when he fell from a loft and suffered a fractured skull. He had previously served in the armed forces during the Great War.
He was the brother of Pte Joseph Valentine Dignan 57528, Kings Liverpool Regiment, who was killed in action 09.04.1917.
