More about Archibald Roland Anderson
Archibald received a gun shot wound to the chest, 27.07.1916 and died the following day. His Captain, writing to his parents said ” He was a good soldier, liked by everyone in his company. There was a call for volunteers for a job, and he was one of the first to come forward. He went through a lot, and the job was a success.”
For reasons unknown Archibald is not listed on the original Dundee Roll of Honour.

ARBROATH PRIVATE DIES OF WOUNDS.
Private Archibald R. Anderson of the Queen’s Royal West Surrey Regiment, whose serious illness from wounds received in the back while in action was previously reported, succumbed to his injuries on 28th July.
The deceased soldier, who was the only son of a widowed mother, left Arbroath for London about eighteen months ago, and was employed in the clerical department of the office of Messrs Shanks & Sons, engineers. He was 23 years of age. When in London he joined the Royal Fusiliers, and was afterwards transferred to the Queen’s Royal West Surrey Regiment. Previous to leaving Arbroath he was for three years’ secretary of the Arbroath Men’s Own Brotherhood, an organisation in which he took a keen and active interest.
