Three of James brothers served during the Great War, they were, Pte Charles Stephen 457985, of the 87th Battalion, Canadian Infantry , Pte John Mason Stephen, 24649, 17th Battalion, Canadian Infantry, John spending his career in the Army, and George Stephen, George died after the war of Pneumonia having returned from the front quite ill.
