More about David Whyte

David was the brother of Pte Archibald Whyte, 389311, Labour Corps, who also served during the war and returned home safely.

Private Whyte came home from his ranch in the Rocky Mountains to join the 1/4 Black Watch in October 1914 and left for France early in 1915. He saw much severe fighting and was wounded on the 28th March 1918.

Private David Whyte, Black Watch, 11 Strathmartine Road, has been dangerously wounded.  He is a son of the late Mr and Mrs Whyte, tailor and clothier, Castle Street, and on the outbreak of war left a ranch in the Rocky Mountains to come home to join.  He was attached to a Territorial battalion, and has been in the fighting since February, 1915.  He is about 29 years of age.  A brother is a private in the Scottish Rifles.

Private David Whyte, Black Watch, 11 Strathmartine Road, who had previously been reported dangerously wounded, has since died of wounds in a hospital in Rouen.  Private Whyte who was the son of the late Mr Andrew Whyte, tailor and clothier, Castle Street, left a ranch in the Rocky Mountains at the outbreak of hostilities, and came home to join up.  He enlisted in the Territorial battalion, and had been at the front since February of 1915.  He was twenty-nine years of age.  A brother of the deceased is at present serving in the Scottish Rifles.
