Walter was the brother of Pte Douglas George Smith 33348, 12th Battalion, Hampshire Regiment, who was killed in action, 03.07.1918.

LIEUT W. T. SMITH.
Lieutenant Walter T. Smith, who is reported missing, is one of six officers who left for the front about four weeks ago. Indeed, four of the six have been wounded in their first encounter. The others are Lieutenants Ross, Fergusson, and Dickson.
Lieutenant Smith is a son of Mr George R. Smith, 27 Lammerton Terrace, and previous to enlistment was employed with Messrs Henderson & Co., merchants, 10 Victoria Chambers. His brother Douglas is in the Motor Transport Section of the A.S.C.

LIEUTENANT SMITH.
Official intimation was received last night that Lieutenant Walter T. Smith, who had been reported missing, had been killed in action. Deceased was a son of Mr George R. Smith, 27 Lammerton Terrace. He was an old Morgan Academy boy, and enlisted in the Royal Scots in September, 1914, as a private. A year later he obtained his commission, when he was posted to the Black Watch. Lieutenant Smith had been at the front for only about a month. Prior to enlistment he was employed by Messrs Henderson & Co., merchants, 10 Victoria Chambers, Dundee.
Mr Smith’s son Douglas is at present serving with the Black Watch. He was transferred from the Scottish Horse some time ago.
