More about Andrew Sandeman

Andrew Sandeman volunteered at the start of the war aged 17 and served in the 4th Battalion, Black Watch.  He probably exaggerated his age.  Andrew went missing on 25th September, 1915 at the Battle of Loos aged 18.  His remains were never found and it was not until December 1915 that he was officially declared ‘missing, presumed dead on or since 25th September 1915’ and his parents notified. They placed an intimation in the People’s Journal of Saturday 11 Dec 1915.

Official information has just been received that Private Andrew Sandeman was killed in action on 25th September.

Private Andrew Sandeman resided with his parents at 12 Rosebank Road.  He was only 18 years of age, and enlisted after the commencement of the war, previous to which he was employed as a millworker.
