James has no known grave but is remembered on the Cambrai Memorial.

Mrs Petrie, 4 East Hendersons Wynd, Dundee, has received a letter from an officer at the front intimating the death of her only son Pte James Petrie, Black Watch, the officer writes – “Your son was doing very fine work when he was hit by a bullet and killed outright. He was a splendid soldier, and I always found him bright, cheerful, and willing.” Deceased who was 20 years old, was previously employed as a porter at Dundee West Station. He enlisted in March this year and went to the front in May.

Pte James Petrie, Black Watch (killed) was a son of Mrs Petrie, 4 East Hendersons Wynd. Prior to enlisting, he was employed as a porter at the West Station.
