More about Martin Duff Ormond

Private Ormond died of wounds whilst being cared for in one of the Casualty Clearing Stations located near Dozinghem Military Cemetery. The 3rd Highland Field Ambulance was a Dundee raised medical unit the 1st/3rd was deployed overseas early in the war followed later by the 2nd/3rd. The 3rd/3rd was formed but remained in Dundee.

Martin is believed to be the brother of Pte Aubrey McDonald Ormond, S/23982, 1st/5th Battalion, Seaforth Highlanders, who was killed in action 21.07.1918 and Sapper George Ormond WR/264973, 18th Light Railway, Royal Engineers.

DUNDEE B.B. WORKER DIES OF WOUNDS.

Mrs Ormond, 15 Park Avenue, Dundee, has received intimation that her second son, Private Martin D. Ormond, R.A.M.C., died of wounds at a casualty clearing station at the front on 1st August.  He was 22 years of age, and had been at the front for over two years.  One of his brothers is in the Royal Engineers, and another is in the A.S.C., both on active service, whilst the youngest is in a training reserve battalion.  In civil life Pte. Ormond was in the employment of the Boase Spinning Company, Ltd., St Andrew’s Street.  He was a most active and helpful member of St Andrew’s Parish Church, and had been connected with the Boys’ Brigade for ten years.
