3 of his brothers also fell, they were, Pte George Harrison Neil 2130, 2nd Battalion Black Watch, killed in action 25.09.1915, Sgt James Neil 7047, 2nd Battalion, Highland Light Infantry, killed in action, 15.05.1915 & Driver Robert Neil 18417, 69th Field Company, Royal Engineers, died 07.03.1919. His brother Alexander served as a Private with the 2nd Divisional Train, Canadian Army Service Corps, 135936, and returned home safely.

NEIL^___Killed in action on the 17th May 1915, 7459 Sergeant William Neil, A Company, H.L.I., British Expeditionary Force, beloved husband of Christine Japp, and second son of Mrs S. Neil, 2 Kinnaird Street Dundee, aged 31.  

Sergeant William Neal is one of six sons whom Mrs Neil, 2 Kinnaird Street, has given to the colours, and the sad news of his death was conveyed to his wife at 4 Baldovan Road in an official intimation from the War Office yesterday.  He left for France on 5th August, and a pathetic circumstance is the fact that he was only married an hour or two before the hour of his departure.  He was a Reservist in the H.L.I., having seen 12 years’ service and at the outbreak of hostilities was employed as a shunter at the Caledonian Railway Station.  He was 31 years of age.
