John was the brother of A.B. George Monaghan, M.M. Clyde Z/1848, Anson Battalion, Royal Naval Devision, who returned home safely.
DUNDEE BLACK WATCH DRUMMER DIES OF WOUNDS.
Mrs Monaghan, 36 Hilltown, Dundee, has received information from a chaplain that her son, Private John Monaghan of the 2nd Black Watch, died of wounds in hospital on January 19.
Private Monaghan, who was a native of Broughty Ferry, enlisted at the age of fifteen as a bugler, but later he gave up the bugle for the drum. He has in all served twelve years in the army. He was 26 years of age, and leaves a widow and two Children.
