David Milne was the son of the late Mr D.M. Milne, confectioner, Victoria Road, Dundee. When war broke out he was practising as an architect and surveyor in Doncaster. He enlisted as a private in the London Scottish. After a period of training as a cadet he received a commission in the 10th Essex Regiment. He was killed in an attack on the Hindenburg line.
David Milne Second-Lieutenant Essex Regiment
Second-Lieutenant David Milne, Essex Regiment, who has been killed in action, was the younger son of the late Mr D. M. Milne, confectioner, Ladywell Place, Victoria Road, Dundee. He received his education at the Morgan Academy, and served his apprenticeship as an architect with the late Mr J. Murray Robertson, Albert Square, proceeding later to London, where he was engaged on the staff of the London County Council. While there he took the A.R.I.B.A. qualification, subsequently holding positions with various private firms in the Metropolis. He had great interest in the Volunteer movement, and was a member of the London Regiment. He set up practice in Doncaster about six years ago as an architect and surveyor, and was appointed to the Whitley Park Estate Company.
He joined up as a private in his old regiment about eighteen months ago, and after a period of training in a cadet school at Cambridge gained his commission in December last in the Cycle Corps, Lieutenant Milne went to France in June of this year, and was posted to the Essex Regiment. Thirty-eight years of age, he leaves a widow and three children.
