More about Peter McNeil
DUNDEE SOLDIER KILLED IN ACTION.
Pte. Peter M’Neil, H.L.I., husband of Mrs M’Neil, 71 Constable Street, Dundee, has been killed in action. Deceased who was 35 years of age, joined up in June 1916. He was wounded in action, but returned to the front in July of last year. Previous to enlistment he was employed as a machinist with Messrs J. T. Inglis & Sons, Carolina Port.
His Captain writing to Mrs M’Neil, says :- “Your husband was one of the finest and bravest soldiers that I have known, and I had not a better man belonging to my company. Only a day before his death he distinguished himself by his fine shooting with a Lewis gun, of which team he was a member. It was mainly through his fine marksmanship that an enemy aeroplane which was flying low over his post was brought down, a most exceptional performance.”
Dundee Courier 16th January 1918
