LOCHEE CORPORAL DIES FROM WOUNDS.

Corporal Robert McGaw, Royal Naval Division, has died from wounds received in action. Corporal McGaw, who was the eldest son of Mr and Mrs McGaw, 10 Gray’s Lane, Lochee, was 27 years of age, and enlisted in August, 1915, and had been about five months in France.  In civil life Corporal McGaw was a grocer’s manager in Glasgow.

Two younger brothers of the deceased are with the colours–William in the R.F.A., and James with the Motor Transport.

Robert N McGaw was the eldest son of Mr William and Mrs Annie Squire McGaw of 10 Grays Lane, (formerly at Hollyview, Gardner Street) Lochee. He had two brothers, James and Willie, who were mentioned in the Peoples Journal 15 July 1917. He was conscripted into the Royal Naval Division in June 1917 after serving two years as a Lance Corporal in Scottish Horse (Territorial Force) at Perth. Reporting to the Blandford Camp in Dorset was drafted almost immediately to the Hood Battalion and arrived in France at the end of July. After further training he joined the Hood Battalion at the end of August. In October the Battalion moved from France to Belgium to take part in the Passchendaele campaign. On 26 October, Robert McGaw was struck by shell fragments causing severe wounds and compound fractures to his left thigh and died in the 47th Casualty Clearing Station. He is buried in the Dozinghen Military Cemetery, West Vlanderren, Belgium, Grave Reference 12 C 16.
