More about Donald Mackay
According to naval-history.net the S.S. Staffa was attacked 30.03.1915 but provide no further details on this incident. It must be assumed that Donald died as a result of this attack, he is not listed on the C.W.G.C.
Donald is believed to be the brother of Sgt James Mackay, D.C.M. & M.M. 229409, 44th Battalion, Canadian Infantry, Pte George Mackay, 18931, 41st TRB, Gordon Highlanders & Pte Alfred Mackay, 387464, 727th Company, Labour Corps.
Donald MacKay was born in Wick and lived at 10 Court Street, Dundee. His death was reported in Deaths at Sea as supposed drowned at sea. The 1915 Crew List shows him as having served onboard the Liverpool registered North Point prior to joining the Staffa in London on 30 January 1915 and he was noted as having disappeared at sea on 1 April 1915.
