James was the brother of Pte David Lesslie S/13961, 1st Battalion, Gordon Highlanders, who was killed in action 26.07.1917, and Pte Colin Johnstone Lesslie, 21645, Gordon Highlanders who returned home safely.
James W. Lesslie Black Watch
Mr & Mrs Lesslie, 105 Hawkhill, Dundee, have received intimation that their son, Signaller James W. Lesslie, Black Watch, has been reported missing. Signaller Lesslie, who was 20 years of age, enlisted three years ago, and had been at the front since September last. Prior to joining up Signaller Lesslie was a calender worker in Ashton Works, Hawkhill. A brother was killed in July last, while other two are still serving.

Signaller James W. Lesslie, Black Watch, reported missing since 21st March, is a son of Mr and Mrs Lesslie, 105 Hawkhill, Dundee. He is 20 years of age, and enlisted three years ago. He had been at the front since September last. Signaller Lesslie was formerly a calender worker in Ashton Works, Hawkhill. His brother David, who was in the Gordon Highlanders, was killed on 26th July last, and his brothers William & Colin are in the army, the former being on active service with the Seaforths and the latter in a training battalion of the Argylls.
