James 2 brothers both served and survived the Great War. His friend Frederick Nichol Maude S/12584, in the 2nd photo was born in Oldham, Lanchshire and died 26.09.1916 aged 25. He is remembered on the Thiepval Memorial, Pier & Face 10a.
James Gow 200556 Black Watch
BLACK WATCH MAN KILLED IN ACTION.
Official intimation has been received by Mrs James Gow, 16 Hean’s Lane, Dundee, that her husband, Private James Gow, Black Watch, was killed by a shell explosion on August 27.
Private Gow, who was 33 years of age, joined the transport section of the Black Watch on the outbreak of hostilities, and had been at the front for two-and-a-half years.
Previous to enlistment he was engaged as a cattleman with Mr Alexander M’Donald, farmer, Mains of Balgay, for eleven years. He leaves a widow and three children.
