William has no known grave but is remembered on the Pozieres Memorial. He was the brother of Pte George Fender, M.M. 30414, Highland Light Infantry, who also served and returned home safely.

FENDER―Private William Fender, No. 41737, 12th H.L.I., reported missing since the 25th March 1918, now presumed killed on that date or died of wounds, oldest son of Mr and Mrs Fender, No. 3 Laing Street, Dundee.
