More about William Wilson Duncan

The S. S. Morning was a Dundee Whaling ship built in Norway in 1871. She was part of the 1911 British Antarctic expedition to search for the Discovery.  On December 24th,  1915 she foundered with all but two of her crew while carrying arms to Russia. Captain Smith and the second mate survived.

S.S. Morning  was a British cargo steamer of 452grt that foundered 50nm NE of the Faroes,  December 1915 when on route from Queenstown for Archangel.

William W Duncan lived at 111 Princes Street in Dundee. The SS Morning was a Dundee registered steamship which foundered 50 miles North East of the Faeroes on 24 December 1915 when en route from Queenstown, Ireland to Archangel in Russia with a cargo of war supplies. Dundonians First Mate George Bernard and Shipmaster James Bannerman were lost as well. Their names are not listed on the Tower Hill Memorial in London and the loss the SS Morning is recorded in the Dundee City Roll of Honour. There were only two survivors.
