3-3547 Pte. Joseph Borland, 1st Black Watch, died of wounds on 25 August 1916, aged 41. Born in Dundee, Borland was a reservist, and rejoined his regiment in France at the beginning of December 1914. His wife, Elsie Dann Borland, and three children lived at 3 Derby Street, Dundee.
Pte. Borland is buried in Daours Communal Cemetery Extension, Somme, France, III. A. 32.
DUNDEE SOLDIER’S DEATH FROM WOUNDS. A widow and three of a family are left to mourn the loss of Private Joseph Borland, Black Watch, a Dundee man, who is reported as having died from wounds received in action. Mrs Borland and her children reside at 3 Derby Street. Private Borland, who had previously been wounded in the fighting at Neuve Chapelle, was formerly employed as a cattleman, but, being a reservist, he was recalled for service. The Courier, Tuesday, 19 September 1916.
