More about Martin Boag

Martin was the brother of Pte John Boag 10712, Machine Gun Corps, who was killed in action 24.08.1916. Richard, Henry and Robert all served with the Black Watch with all three returning home safely.

LOCHEE SOLDIER REPORTED MISSING.

Private M. Boag, a Lochee member of the Black Watch, has been reported missing, and his mother, Mrs Boag, of 1 Marybank Lane, Lochee, has been notified by the War Office that the information contained in a chaplain’s letter with regard to her son is not considered to be sufficiently definite to materially assist further inquiries, and that his name must therefore remain on the official list of missing.

Mrs Boag is the mother of five sons, who are engaged with His Majesty’s forces.  In a letter written some time ago Private Richard Boag, No. 3 Company of the 2d Black Watch, states― “I hear that Harry is slightly wounded―I was told so by some of the 4th Black Watch men who had seen him. I don’t know much about Martin who is reported missing, but I think he must be wounded and in some hospital.  All the men who went away to hospital sick or wounded are reported missing.  Perhaps he is amongst them.  All three of us met on 8th May, and I saw Martin again on the 9th.  I have not seen him since, but hope he will write soon.”

LOCHEE SOLDIER KILLED IN ACTION.

Private Martin Boag, of the Black Watch, who was reported missing on 9th May, 1915, is now reported to have been killed in action.  His mother resides at 8 Atholl Street, Lochee.
